This year’s Rheum for Kids Party was held on December 20, 2015 at Jollibee E. Rodriguez, Quezon City. This event aims to bring together pediatric patients with various rheumatic diseases who are facing similar challenges because of their illness.
Through this social event, the kids and their respective families are able to inspire and in a way show that they’re still just like normal people despite afflictions.
The Rheumatology fellows of UST Hospital namely, Aime Fabila, Joy Edar, Richard Pelo, Bryan Paras, Imee Esquibel, Lorielyn Salvador, Elaine Venegas, yours truly and the newly graduate of Pediatric Rheumatology, Ma. Theresa Collante were also there to help and extend support for the event. They went out of their ways to make it to the party and bring joy to the young hearts of the kids.
The party was even brightened by the arrival of Dr. Sandra V. Navarra who also brought gifts for the kids.
At the start of the party, each kid was asked to draw on a piece of star-shaped paper what they wish to receive for Christmas. Most of the children of course wished for toys such as ball, doll, guitar, etc. which shows that despite of being sick, each of them is just like any ordinary kid who has wishes, dreams, and ambitions.
Several games were also played and enjoyed by the kids wherein they are able to exhibit teamwork and coordination. Each member of the team was given a prize for winning.
After the games, the kids and their families enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by Jollibee.
One of the highlights of the party is the arrival of Jollibee mascot. The place was packed with beaming and excited face as Jollibee performed a dance number for everyone.
The kids did not go empty-handed for each received a gift before the party ended. Here we can see the importance of sharing and making the kids happy in spite of being burdened by their illness at a very young age. It was truly fulfilling seeing those smiles on the children’s faces.
